Many homeowners think that upgrading kitchen countertops requires a huge budget.

But there are several ways to get high-quality countertops at a lower price.

At American Countertops & Design, we help customers in Palm Beach County and North Broward find affordable countertop solutions every day.

Here are three smart strategies.

Choose a Remnant for Smaller Projects

One of the best ways to save money on countertops is by choosing remnant slabs.

These countertop remnants are leftover pieces from larger projects.

They are perfect for:

  • Bathroom vanities
  • Kitchen islands
  • Small kitchens
  • Laundry rooms

Because the material already exists in stock, the price is often much lower.

Many homeowners are surprised that, using remnants, they can get premium stone at a lower price than a full slab.

Buy Direct From a Local Fabricator

Many homeowners start their search at big-box stores.

But what many people don’t realize is that those stores usually send the job to a local fabricator anyway.

Working directly with a fabricator offers advantages like:

  • Pricing straight from the shop that cuts your stone
  • The actual slab to choose from, not a small sample
  • A timeline you can plan around
  • Direct communication

This is why many homeowners visit local stone yards before making their decision.

With us, local fabrication means your slab is cut and polished in our own Boynton Beach shop, one crew handles both your template and your installation, and we set the stone typically 7–10 business days after templating.

Select Materials That Offer the Best Value

Some materials offer a great balance between price and performance.

Popular budget-friendly choices include:

The best way to compare them is by seeing the slabs in person. You can preview some of our slabs in stock online before you visit.

FAQ

Questions About Saving Money on Countertops

Are remnants lower quality than full slabs?

No. A remnant is the piece of a slab left over after a larger project is cut, so it is the same stone in a smaller size. Its price is often lower because the material is already in stock, not because the stone is a lesser grade. Tell us the size your project needs and we’ll check what is on the rack.

Do big-box stores fabricate their own countertops?

Usually not in the store itself. Big-box stores typically pass the templating, cutting and installation to an outside fabricator or installer. When you buy direct, you deal with the people doing the work: your stone is cut and polished on the CNC in our own shop, and the crew you meet at templating is the crew that comes back on installation day.

Can I keep my existing cabinets to save money?

In many kitchens, yes. If your cabinets are in good shape, you can replace only the countertops. Taking out the old tops and hauling them away is work we can do, and it shows up on your estimate, so you can see what the project includes before anything starts. The one requirement is that the cabinets are in place when we come to template, with whatever goes over or under the counter already fitted.
